Details

Mask fit rules ensure that masks remain securely in place throughout the duration of gameplay. Masks must fit comfortably and fully cover required facial areas without the need for manual adjustment.

Retention straps—typically elastic dual or single straps—must remain tight enough to prevent the mask from shifting during dives, slides, or head movements. Straps may not be excessively worn, stretched, or damaged.

Some events require chin straps to further secure masks in high-mobility formats. When required, these straps must remain fastened at all times.

Masks cannot be modified to change coverage or fit, including cutting foam, removing retention straps, or altering frame structure. Any modification that compromises stability or coverage results in immediate disqualification of the equipment.

Officials assess mask fit during inspection and may require strap tightening or gear replacement if the mask does not remain adequately secure.
