Details
Optional protective equipment includes items that players may choose to wear but are not mandated by core rules or safety bodies. These items often enhance comfort, reduce minor impacts, or support player mobility.
Common examples include knee pads, elbow pads, chest protectors, slide shorts, gloves, and neck protection. Though optional, these items must be constructed from materials that do not excessively reduce paintball break likelihood, impede hit detection, or create officiating challenges.
Some leagues specify maximum allowable padding thickness to maintain fairness. Footwear remains optional in type, but cleats with metal spikes or unsafe protrusions may be restricted depending on field surface.
Officials may remove or restrict optional gear if it obstructs identification (e.g., excessively bulky clothing), poses a collision risk, or no longer maintains structural safety due to wear or damage.
Optional equipment must always comply with local rules, and players are responsible for verifying event-specific allowances before competition.
