Mandatory protective equipment includes the items that all players must wear or use during regulated paintball participation. These requirements exist to maintain consistent safety standards and reduce risks associated with high-velocity projectiles.

The most critical required item is the certified face mask, which must meet established impact standards from recognized testing bodies. Masks must cover the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, and must remain fully secured during play.

Barrel covers or blocking devices are required whenever players are in non-play areas or transitioning between points. These devices prevent accidental discharges and are enforced consistently across competitive and recreational formats.

Some leagues or fields impose additional requirements, such as protective padding, footwear types, or long-sleeve clothing, depending on environmental hazards, local regulations, or the format being played. Officials retain the authority to impose temporary additional requirements based on weather, field conditions, or identified risks.
